Hello dear visitor,
My name is Sam Chng. Yeah, I am the creator of Discus'O'Zest
and here I would like to tell you about myself and my hobby
of keeping Discus!!!
I am 18 and a student in Singapore Polytechnic. Yup, I am young,
but I don't want you to think I am a scientist or some old man.
Hehe... :0)
Keeping Discus is currently quite new to me. I started not
long ago, in January 2001. But from that time on, I have learned
a whole lot from a few Discus forums. Mainly, Discus in Profile
and Discus Page Holland. I had my questions answered first hand
by breeders around my country, Singapore. I love to ask them
questions when I visit them during the weekends.
Before I kept Discus, I had 10 years of fish rearing as my
hobby. My dad was an avid aquarist when he was younger. He reared
my types of fishes and I tagged along since I was a little boy.
Together we kept tetras, bettas, guppies, parrotfish, Discus,
koi, dragonfish, angelfish and goldfish.

My Koi angelfish I had one year ago. It's gone now. This one
is rather big in size. I like his orange cap he had.
We had Discus about 10 years ago. They were turquiose, the
most common ones at that time. We had three and my dad gave
them away a year later. Amazingly with little knowledge we had
about Discus, they didn't die. We turned out attention to goldfishes,
my dad and mum's favourite. They are graceful and cute. Ranchu
and Ryukins can cost as much as S$200 each. We reared them,
but when they all died of Dropsy (opening of scales), ohhh....the
sadness we couldn't bear.
Singapore being a major tropical fish exporter has also contributed
to my interest in fish keeping too. Every corner of Singapore
has an aquarium store. Fish farms here are huge and are frequently
visited! Farm visits are fun and very enriching for younger
children.
As of 1 June, I have 27 Discus. The biggest one I have is 6.5
inches and the smallest, well a mere 1 inches in length from
head to the end of the body. I have six tanks. One 5 feet tank,
one 4 feet and six 2 feet tanks. My love for Discus has grew
a lot since the first time I saw them. Using my knowledge I
gained, my dad and I now rear Discus together. Although not
solely Discus, we still have a few goldfishes and angelfishes.
I hope that you would enjoy my website and benefit from it.
