Confused with all the Filtration?
You can get help here!

Types of Filters

Power filter

Power filters are positioned inside the tank, usually in a rear corner. These things can include mechanical and chemical filtration. Filter media such as sponge, filter floss and activated carbon can be found inside a power filter. Smaller power filters have only sponge them. But the larger ones are capable of filtering large aquarium.

Using both mechanical and chemical helps to maintain clearer and purer water. Although sponge is good beneficial bacteria harbour, frequent needed by these filters would deem the sponge useless for biological filtration purposes. Thus, power filters serves very minimal biological function in your aquarium.

How it works

A power-head above a plastic container creates a great suction. Water, dirt and debris are pulled in from the bottom and through the filter media housed inside the container. The water is then expelled through a nozzle. This is good for creating a current to evenly distribute O2 in the tank.

Conclusion

Yup, it's the end of this article on filtration, I hope you like it and learn something that would help you and clear your doubts. Filtration is only supplementary and helps you postpone the changing of water. The most important is nothing but changing water. That is the key that is vital for Discus!
