Fierce Husband and Headband's Babies Growing Stages... |
18th August 2001 :: Nothing much happened over
the past four day. What was amazing was growth of these fishes.
They can double in size overnight! After four days you can see
the different between the size of the fries. They are fat and
chubby now. They start to develop their stress bars.

20th August 2001 - Exploring around :: Today,
the fries start to venture further away from their parents.
I am still feeding them brime shrimp. You can see their bellies
are light orange in colour. Brime shrimps are light orange in
colour.

30th August 2001 - They continue to grow bigger. I have
to feed them 4 times a days. When I am not home, my mother or
father would help out to feed these hungry little ones.

A group of fries going after their mother for mucus. Their primary
source of food at this stage of life.
5th Sept 2001 - Separation :: The parents look
weak and lethargic. They have been spending countless hours
taking care of their young. They are very stressed and should
need a rest. Headband the male, starts to get irritated when
too many fries are pecking at his body. The fries are now about
1-2cm in length. They eat a lot and the parents can't keep up
with the mucus intake by the fries. Fries have been known to
peck till the flesh of the parents are eaten too! Ouch! So I
decided that both the parents should be taken out.

6th Oct 2001 - Much larger:: They are much larger
now. They no longer taking brim shrimp, but I feed them baby
Discus growth food and shredded beefheart. They are taking on
some colour and are starting to be dominant. I saw one Discus
attacking a few others. That's good and healthy Discus behaviour.

9th Feb 2002 - Grown up :: This picture is taken
of a baby that has patterns alike it's mother. It's striation
is muc more intense and has the brown base colour of it's father.
There are others too with spots. Their father has spots too
but were vague. Looks like there is definitely an improvement
in patterns and colouration after breeding. Ok, it's the end
of their story. Now I have to think of what to do to them when
they grow up. Opps! :0)
